Why change "Pilipinas" to "Filipinas"?

I have been wondering why bother to change the Philippines' official name from "Philippines" or "Pilipinas" to "Filipinas". In my own opinion, it is of no relevance to the present economic problems and pressing matters that the government officials must work on, by changing the official name. So why take time to change it anyway?

The Komisyong ng Wikang Filipino (KWF) spearheads the changing of the country's official name in a resolution dated April 12.

Aside from changing the country’s name, the names of streets, towns and provinces are among the matters of discussion like the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) that has been suggested to be changed in honor of the late President Corazon Aquino.

The decision has only caused lots of comments and mixed reactions, most of them violent ones, via the social media networks. I myself, do not agree to change the official name. The government officials should instead prioritize some pressing problems rather than wasting time in changing names that the Filipinos had been used to.

Comments and suggestions will be appreciated.
