Lolong is dead

Lolong, the largest captive crocodile is dead!


Bunawan, Agusan del Sur lost their most precious catch that was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest crocodile in captivity. As of this writing, the cause of Lolong's death was not yet known.

Lolong was captured in a creek in Barangay Nueva Era, Bunawan last September 2011. It was named after the crocodile hunter Ernesto "Lolong" CaƱete who died of a heart attack while searching for the crocodile. The saltwater animal measures 27 feet and weights 1,075 kilogram and was placed in Bunawan Eco-Park and Research Center after its captivity. Lolong attracts tourists from different places and Bunawan gained its popularity while the local residents increase their business productivity.

  1. Sad to know that the it died because of pneumonia and cardiac arrest despite the efforts done by the local officials in caring it.
